Botany Light Festival

Room 16 worked with Ashley and Raewyn from Uxbridge Arts, to make lanterns. We had to bend and tape the wood into circles and then cover the whole thing with plastic. Inside are two little lights that keep changing colour when you turn them on.

Last night we paraded with six other schools at the Botany Light Festival. The parade was a bit shorter than it was supposed to be, because it was raining. We didn't mind though, because it was still a lot of fun! We hope you enjoy these photos of us making and parading our lanterns.

If you'd like to know how to make a lantern, then read the instructions below.

Making Lanterns
By Kevin

If you follow these steps you will make a beautiful lantern.

You will need:

• Cable tie
• Six thin strips of wood
• Scissors
• Tape
• Bamboo stick
• Strong glad wrap
• Two finger lights
• Hook

1. Make the thin strips of wood into circles the same size using the tape to hold them.
2. Tape three circles together to make a ball shape. Do this with the other three circles.
3. Join the ball shapes together with the tape.
4. Tape the finger lights onto the inside.
5. Make the cable tie into a circle and tape it to the top.
6. Wrap it with glad wrap.
7. Cut a hole in the lantern.
8. Tape a hook onto the end of the bamboo stick and hook it onto the cable tie inside the lantern.

Now turn the lights on!
